The Italian Convent

Arnous, Damascus, Syria
Consisting today of a convent, a youth centre and a hospital run by the Salesians Roman Catholic Institute, the Italian Convent was originally built in the 1930s during the French Mandate.

The convent’s unique architectural style influenced the design of all the adjacent residential buildings.

Today, the whole neighbourhood around the convent is named “Telyani”, Arabic for “Italian”.
