This modern oriental style mosque is a product of a major expansion project that took place in 1990 on the original mosque that houses the Shrine of a highly revered figure in Shia Islam.

Lady Ruqaiya is the daughter of Al-Hussein Ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Mohammad. She died in Damascus in 681 and is laid to rest at this mosque.
