One of the most important khans in Damascus Old City, Khan Al-Harir was built by the Ottoman governor of Damascus Darwish Pasha in the second half of the 16th century.

It was later given the name Al-Harir, “Silk” in Arabic, in reference to silk traders who used to trade in it.
