The Main Gate of Jupiter Temple and Bab Jiroun

Al-Hamidiya, Beside the Umayyad Mosque, Damascus, Syria
Once the main entrance to the Jupiter’s Temple, this beautiful Roman gate is not currently used to access the Umayyad Mosque.

Multiple ascending stairs lead to the Main Gate of Jupiter’s Temple, which was originally a triple doorway whose base is now 5m below ground level.

The side gate of the sanctum is called Bab Jiroun. It lies on the right side of the main gate and is also preceded by few ascending stairs.
