The Syrian Parliament

Arnous, Damascus, Syria
The Syrian Parliament building was first commissioned in 1928. It went through various stages of developments until 1954 when it was finally completed.

The building features various Arabic architectural styles including Abbasid, Fatimid and Andalusian.

Many of Syria’s modern history defining moments have taken place inside and around this beautiful building.

The most infamous of such moments was when French forces launched a hideous attack on the building in May 1945. This incident happened towards the end of the French Mandate when the local Syrian garrison in charge of protecting the Parliament refused to salute the French flag.
