Al-Fijeh Water Spring

Al-Fijeh Water Spring gushes out from the mountains situated few kilometres to the west of Damascus, and it is the main water supply of the city.

The spring’s flow reaches up to 25 cubic meters per second, and its water is considered to be among the purest in the world. A Roman temple is situated at the source of Al-Fijeh Spring.

Furthermore, remains of an unfinished Roman water tunnel was discovered at the source of the spring. This tunnel, dating back to the 3rd century, was part of a plan to transport water 200km from the spring source to the ancient city of Palmyra.
