Bab Al-Faradis

Al-Amara Al-Jouaniya, Damascus, Syria
This is one of the seven Roman gates of Damascus Old City that is dedicated to planet Mercury.

The gate was later called Bab Al-Faradis, or “Gate of Heavens” in Arabic, due to the abundance of lush vegetation and water sources in its vicinity.

It is a double gateway and was last restored in the Ayyubid Period.
