Al-Marjeh Square

Al-Hejaz, Damascus, Syria
This Square is called “Marjeh” or “Pasture” in Arabic because it was built on what once was an open pasture just outside the Damascus Old City Wall.

Marjeh Square is also known as the Martyrs Square because many Syrian nationalists opposing the Ottoman occupation were executed there in 1916.
Historical Periods: Ottomans
