The Phoenicians

Cross Roads of Civilisations

Phoenicians or Canaanites are the names given to the indigenous population who settled the Syrian coastline since at least the 3rd millennium BC.

These trade masters, who conquered the world’s seas, are believed to have reached the Americas two thousand years before Columbus’s alleged discovery.

The remains of the Phoenician City of Amrit, which dates back to the 3rd millennium BC, can be seen today on the outskirts of the City of Tartus on the Syrian Coastline.
