Salah Eddine

Making History from Damascus

Salah Eddine (1138 – 1193) is the founder of the Ayyubid Dynasty which ruled big parts of the Middle East in the 12th and 13th centuries.

He is most famous for defeating the Crusaders in many battles and initiating their demise in the Orient.

Salah Eddine is laid to rest next to the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, where his legacy of chivalry and high morals lives on.

This magnificent World Heritage Site castle is located on the Syrian coastal mountains 25km to the east of the city of Lattakia. The castle was renamed after Salah Eddine when he captured it from the Crusaders in 1188.
